ABOUT THE WARD PACK

As a firefighter, safety has and will always be the most important aspect of the job.

To protect the safety of firefighters, we are given PPE or personal protective equipment. Having this gear with you at all time while on duty is very important. It is just as vital that the equipment be in proper working order and that it not be damaged. 

We are issued gear lockers and bulky duffle bags so that we can store and carry our gear. But it is not always the easiest to maneuver, and how well it protects our equipment can be questionable.

“The Ward Pack,” is designed to fit inside most gear lockers. It has a hanging system which allows it to be placed anywhere it has two points of contact.

The name tags are not included.

There are three different types of storage pockets along with the inside of the backpack.

  • One side has a bungee cord style storage pocket.
  • The other side has a storage pocket made out of elastic fabric.
  • The front, and both side of the cover have a mesh fabric pocket.

ABOUT KEVIN WARD

I was a firefighter in the Air Force for eight years, and a civilian firefighter and EMT for three and a half years. I am now a firefighter at Fort Benning in Columbus, Georgia.

How the Ward Pack Concept was born... 

At a fire department in California, we were constantly doing training on a fire boat. We had to take our clumsy PPE back and forth between the engine to the boat.

I decided to see if I could find an easier way.

I have always liked using backpacks, but I couldn’t find one which could carry my equipment..
